Virginia Beach at Last!
Officially, the Jr. Olympics start this Saturday with the Multi-Events (Penthathlon, Decathlon, Triathlon). The Track and Field events will begin on Monday. Once again, Ohio Lightning's 3000 Meter phenom, Marcella "The Lightning Rod" Chavez, will be 'setting the pace' for our team Monday morning, August 2nd. That's right, 8:00 a.m., while the rest of the world is conquering coffee and traffic, Marcella will be conquering her 3K. Watch for a video of this event next Monday evening (hopefully!) and more pictures of all the Lightning Bolts in action. Parents, submit any pics or vids you have of the kids in action, and this webmaster will make sure I get them posted!
Aint Nuttin but a G-Thing!
And the G is for Goals! Don't forget to give yourself a realistic goal for the Nationals, Ohio Lightning, as you head down to Virginia. Remember, to make it this far is quite an accomplishment! Good luck to all the little (and big) Lightning Bolts as they strike Dick Price Stadium at Norfolk State University. Kaboom!

Feelin' lazy? Well don't! Now is the time to work hard so you can put on a good show at the Nationals. If you've made it this far, don't stop now. Two weeks til showtime. Set your goals if you already haven't. If your goal was to make it to Nationals, then set another. Would you like to place in the top half or third of all the contestants in your events? Check out the competition's times if you like and see where you stand and what you'd like to accomplish. Keep your expectations realistic and you won't be disappointed!

Athletes, make sure you get plenty of rest this week and eat healthy. All of you are one step away from going to Virginia and competing in the Jr. Olympics. Parents, make sure you have your coolers full of healthy foods and drinks for this three-day competition. If you're not sure when your event is, please check out the event schedule.
Ohio Lightning's competition begins on Friday with our very own Marcella "In-it-to-Win-It" Chavez taking to the track for the 3000 Meter Run at 2:00pm! Wish her luck as she runs the longest distance in the meet.
The top four winners of each race and event will receive medals (Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper). This includes Relay Teams as well! Please check back Sunday night or Monday morning for full results.

Ohio Lightning Travel Team! This is what it all boils down to - National Qualifier this Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, only the top 4 will advance to the Nationals, bring your best game this weekend! This three day event will take place in Springfield at Wittenburg Stadium, starting on Friday. The area is a familiar spot for Ohio Lightning as we have been there already this year. Don't feel comfortable just yet - those who will challenge you will be local opponents AND some from out of state also! This is the most exciting meet of the season, as every child who qualified will have their talent on display.

Rec and Travel in Action this Week!
Both Travel and Rec teams are in action this week. Fortunately for the Lightning parents, all meets are in town this week! We'll kick it off Wednesday morning with the local Hershey Track Meet this Wednesday at 9:00 AM. If you receive first place in your event, that will qualify you for the State Hershey Track Meet next month!
Our travel team will travel down to Eastmore High School on Saturday for the annual Talley Invitational. This is one of this webmaster's favorite track meets of the year. Bring your friends and family to this local event to join in on the fun!

Two Girls and Six Medals Later,,,,,,
 Meet two of our young BantamBolts - Zakyah and Tiseari! Both brought home a handful of metal last track meet. Zakyah ran an AMAZING 3:04 in the 800 (taking first place), while Tiseari clocked in at the grueling 1500M run at 6:24 winning her gold. Be afraid of these two, be very afraid............because they aren't afraid.

Rain Rain, Go Away
Although the first half of the day was a soggy mess, all were glad that the meet wasn't called off due to lightning. In the words of Coach Dwayne, "The only lightning here today is the Ohio Lightning!" Yes, that's right - our very own 54 bolts of lightning struck Saturday in the AAU District Qualifying meet. This put all in attendance elligible for competition at the National Qualifier in July! And now the hard work begins!
Long Distance Domination
Kiarra and Cici took gold and silver! Our Girls Midget Bolts have brought home 14 medals this year in the 800 and 1500 Meter events. Congrats to Kiarra, Cici, Marcella, and Ivy!

Turning Up the Heat - Marcella (1st in 3000) and Ciara (3rd in 3000)
 Although there were 47 Lightning Bolts in the house, there wasn't a drop of rain in sight on the 82 degree day! Competition was tough and we still managed to come out winners! Many beat their own personal times. Some set new bars for themselves, but whatever the case, let's give a big congratulations to every single member of the OHIO LIGHTNING!! Getting Rid of the First Meet Jitters
 For the first travel meet of the year, results have been reported and we have set the bar for the season. From here on, this webmaster will be recording each athletes Personal Best times/throws/jumps, so even if a medal doesn't seem like it is on the horizon, compete against yourself! Remember, track is a great source of fitness and the more you push yourself, the better the results you'll see in the end!
Check out our Medal Page for a medal count for our season and our Personal Bests section. Although it is fun to win a medal, don't forget the true importance of why we get fit - to build both our mind and bodies!

Two Meets in Two Days
 Good luck to both Ohio Lightning Travel and Ohio Lightning Rec Teams this week. Friday night's competition starts at 6:30 at Walnut Ridge High School (left) for our Recreation Runners only!
 On Saturday, Ohio Lightning Travel will be in Lima Stadium (right) where more than a dozen AAU teams will be competing. Parents, get your checklist of "Things to Bring" to make sure your athlete has everything he/she needs to perform!

Invitational Checklist For the Month of May
We're kicking of our AAU season this month and competition is right around the corner. Lightning Bolts, lace up your spikes on May 15 as we hit the road and show Lima what it feels like when Lightning strikes. On May 22, we head to Cincy for the Ohio Pride Invitational, and another chance to show your talent.

Our AAU District Meet, originally scheduled for Tiffin, OH will now be hosted by Africentric High School here in Columbus OH! The Revised Outdoor Schedule is now posted.

2010 BREAKOUT COOKOUT!
Ohio Lightning! Its time to kick the season off again with another memorable cookout! Be sure to attend this event:
When: Saturday May 1 at 4pm
Where: Woodward Park Recreation Center - back near the tennis courts.
The club will be providing all the meat - including hot dogs and hamburgers.
We would ask for everyone that would like to contribute bring a covered dish or plastic wear. Please RSVP to Jenni Pearson with number of people attending and if you would like to signup to bring anything.
